Short film introduction
In today's lesson we have watched a few different short films some made by college students and some who have had experience making short films. We have learnt about narrative structure and we evaluated a lot of short films. We went on a website called BBC film network.
A part of the narrative structure is linear or non linear. This just means is the story all in order or is it mumbled up by using flash backs and coming back to the present day time. Mostly in the short films they use linear, I did not see a short film that used flash backs.
Also we looked at Realist or anti realist, this just means is there a possibility of this happening for real, there was a mix of them being realist or anti realist, there was a comedy short film I watched which was about a roman centurion coming back to life, this would be anti realist as this would never happen.
Another part of the narrative structure is if the ending is open or closed. This just means is it clear what is going to happen after the film, There was a mix of this being used, some films like the centurion would be an open ending because we dont know what happens to him after the film has happened anything could happen, whereas a film we watched called joyride we could tell what happened at the end by the sound used.
The final part of the narrative structure is the multi strand or single strand. This just means is the film telling one persons point of view or multiple point of views. From all of the short films we watched I noticed that all of them are just one persons point of view there was only one where it showed another point of view.
